“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”

― Fred Rogers

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”

-Carl Jung

We use techniques from child-centered play therapy, expressive arts therapy, and attachment based theories to support child development and growth. We offer counseling for children ages 2 years old to young adults, and we consider a child's development stages as we choose goals and techniques for treatment.

We highly encourage parent participation through a child’s therapy.  We offer one-on-one parent sessions, as well as parent sessions with the child to help build communication, strengthen attachment and bonding, and build skills for problem-solving and conflict resolution.

Children are often referred to our practice for assistance with:

  • Play Based Therapies (including art and sand)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Relaxation Skills Training (including yoga techniques)

  • Conflict Resolution Skills/Problem Solving Skills

  • Social Skill Training

  • Family Therapy

  • Effective Parenting Skills

“The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental-health intervention known to mankind.”

-Bessel van der Kolk

Trauma Treatment

“Trauma is a fact of life.  It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.”

-Peter Levine

The Greek word for trauma is translated to "wound".  Often times, our unhealed wounds will manifest in our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationship patterns, and even physical functioning.  The goal of "processing trauma" in therapy is to help the brain and nervous system to realize that past threats do not have to be responded to in the present.  Therapy for trauma can be a hard and emotional process, but the outcome can be life-changing.

As the client is ready, we use the following techniques to help with processing trauma:

  • Psychoeducation

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapies (CBT and DBT)

  • Expressive Arts Techniques

  • Yoga Techniques

  • Play Therapy Techniques

  • Faith-Based Techniques

"Trauma comes back as a reaction, not a memory."

-Bessel van der Kolk
